The state government plans to establish Bhadoshi’s Kashi Naresh Government Postgraduate College Gyanpur as university under an amendment act.

The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to establish Kashi Naresh Government Postgraduate College, Gyanpur, Bhadohi as 'Kashi Naresh University’'. Under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath to improve accessibility of higher education, and for university’s establishment, Uttar Pradesh State University Act, 1973 will be amended.
According to official Uttar Pradesh’s information and public relations department statement, the higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that the state government's objective is to offer higher education to students from rural and backward areas with access to within their own districts and prevent them from migrating to metropolitan cities.
“To this end, the state government has prepared a proposal to promulgate the Uttar Pradesh State University (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. Necessary changes will be made to Section 4, Section 50, Section 52, and the schedule of the Amendment Act to enable the formal establishment of the proposed university,” the official UP’s press information statement read in Hindi.
He stated that the Uttar Pradesh government has already taken several steps to ensure quality, employment-oriented, and accessible higher education in the state.

Furthermore, 3 private universities were granted letters of authorization and letters of intent, including Radha Govind University, Chandausi (Sambhal district), and Bodhisattva University, Barabanki. Meanwhile, a Letter of Intent was handed over to Anglo Sanskrit College, Fatehpur, the sponsor of Thakur Yugraj Singh University, Fatehpur.
The education minister handed over the letters of operation and intent to these universities at his residence in Lucknow.
On the occasion, the minister said that under the leadership of the chief minister, the state government strives to expand higher education institutions, provide skill-based education, and offer quality study opportunities for the youth at the local level.
