Ramanuj Ganguly, president of WBBSE, in an official statement, said that the Class 10 board exams 2026 will begin from February 2 and continue till February 12. He requested that all teachers assigned as BLOs under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise should be released from BLO duty on exam days up to around 4:30 pm.
“Please note that such teachers are required to discharge duties and work related to the said examination, either directly or in support of its safe and secured completion,” as per the official statement by the WBBSE president.
Referring to a Calcutta High Court’s order, the West Bengal board stated that the court had recorded the election commission of India’s stand that teachers should be assigned minimally as BLOs, and where necessary, should be engaged only during holidays, non-teaching days, and non-teaching hours to avoid disruption of academic work.
“The Hon'ble Supreme Court has specifically laid down in St. Mary's School (supra) that the teachers may be required to work only on holidays, non-teaching days and non-teaching hours,” the official statement reads.
In addition, the West Bengal board urged district authorities to ensure compliance with guidelines and the court order, and requested directions so that teachers are facilitated to work as BLOs only on holidays, non-examination days and after-examination hours between February 2 and 12.
The WBBSE has sent the request to various district election officers and district magistrates, including Alipurduar, Bankura, Birbhum, Cooch Behar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Uttar Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Hooghly, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, ]hargram, South Kolkata, North Kolkata, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, and Purulia.
Students who will appear for the WB Class 10 board exams 2026 can collect their admit card from their respective schools.
