This is not the first time the board has asked the students to upload their social category. Earlier, when the legal bottleneck was removed, WBJEEB chairman Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee had asked the OBC students to upload the documents and announced that the results would be declared by August 7.
However, a day before the WBJEE results, Justice Kaushik Chanda initiated contempt proceedings and later directed the board to publish a fresh merit list by giving 7% reservation for the 66 classes of OBC under the old policy.
About 12 days after the high court order, the board has asked SC, ST, and OBC candidates to update their category status through the admission portal by August 21. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP ) staged a protest before Bikash Bhawan, the headquarters of the state education department over the delay in publishing WBJEE results .
“SC/ST/OBC candidates are requested to mention their respective caste/ tribe/ community names, and upload their respective certificates through the window available in WBJEEB’s websites from 18.08.2025 to 21.08.2025 (11:59PM),” the circular read.
The court had ordered the WBJEEB to implement the old OBC reservation policy and prepare a fresh merit list within 15 days from the date of the judgement. Accordingly, the board was expected to declare the results by August 22. However, it has now given students time till August 21 to update their caste, tribe, and community.
WBJEE 2025 is held for admission to engineering, pharmacy, architecture, and technical courses offered in West Bengal engineering colleges.
