Justice Kausik Chanda of the Calcutta High Court orally directed that the WBJEE 2025 result cannot be declared today, August 7. The directive was issued during a hearing held in the morning in connection with the contempt plea filed against the Higher Education Department.

The deadline for WBJEE 2025 candidates to update their social category details ended on August 2 at 11:59 PM. The WBJEEB had reopened the portal following the Supreme Court’s July 28 order and a legal advisory issued by the Higher Education Department on July 30. This step was intended to implement the OBC reservation policy ahead of result publication and document verification. However, despite completing this process, the WBJEE 2025 result continues to be withheld due to the Calcutta High Court’s interim stay issued on August 6.

With the WBJEE 2025 result still withheld due to the ongoing court case, students and faculty fear a significant academic delay. Without results or counselling, engineering colleges remain unable to start the new session. Faculty at government colleges say that if admissions don't begin soon, the first semester may not start before mid-October. Aspirants are urging authorities to resolve the issue quickly to prevent a full semester loss.

The Calcutta High Court is yet to begin hearing the contempt petition filed against the West Bengal Higher Education Department in connection with the WBJEE 2025 result delay. As per the court’s August 6 directive, the principal secretary of the Higher Education Department has been summoned to appear virtually to explain the alleged violation of the division bench’s May 22 order.

Accusing the state government of “destroying Bengal’s future”, BJP West Bengal alleged that the prolonged WBJEE 2025 result delay reflects systemic failure in education. The party said there are “no teachers in schools, no results for students, and no jobs for passouts”.

The BJP West Bengal unit questioned the delay in the declaration of WBJEE 2025 results, stating that students have been left in limbo even after three months of taking the exam. “When will counselling start? When will the academic session begin?” the party posted on X, alleging that a full semester has already been lost.

The Calcutta High Court observed that the state had moved forward with result-related activities even though the Supreme Court had not stayed the May 2024 division bench order on the OBC reservation list. The court expressed concern over the violation.
