Allahabad University suspends 16 students over ragging incident

The University of Allahabad (AU) has suspended 16 students after they were found involved in an incident of alleged ragging in the Sir Sunderlal Hostel. The university has also issued show-cause notices to the suspended students. The inspection was conducted after receiving a complaint of ragging from the students.
According to an order issued by the university's proctor, Rakesh Singh had directed an anti-ragging squad to conduct a surprise inspection at the Sir Sunderlal Hostel on October 9, following a complaint of ragging . During the inspection, several students were found prima facie involved in the act.
During the incident's investigation, the disciplinary committee constituted to probe the matter later recommended action against 16 students. Furthermore, acting on the committee's recommendation, the university has also suspended the students with immediate effect and ordered their expulsion from the hostel.

Students to appear before committee on Oct 30
The university's proctor has also directed the suspended students to appear before the inquiry committee on October 30. Students have been directed to come along with their parents or guardians, carrying valid identification, to present their written explanation.
According to the Jagran media reports, another incident has come to light at Allahabad University's Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hostel. A case has been registered at the Colonelganj police station against several unidentified individuals. But no arrests have been made yet.
The victim had previously complained about ragging, but no action was taken. The student was forcibly dragged to the hostel rooftop, made him stand like a rooster, and beat him.
The student belongs to Charwa, Kaushambi district, is a first-year BA student at Allahabad University. Vishwajeet lives in room number 117 of the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hostel in Chandpur Salori.
