Generative AI, ML booming in India; enrolments surge 44%: Coursera report

Coursera has launched over 75 new courses and projects on AL, ML and GenAI in 2024.
NEW DELHI: A report by Coursera, a learning platform, highlights the demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Generative AI (GenAI) courses in India. The report shows the percent-wise increase in this course enrolment from 2022 and 2023.
As per the report, the Advanced Learning Algorithms course offered by DeepLearning.Ai saw a growth of 110% in 2023 as compared to the previous year. Introduction to Data Analytics course by IBM grew by 38% in 2023. Courses like AI For Everyone, Data Analysis with Python also saw significant growth in 2023.
Enrolment in the GenAi course, "Build AI Apps with ChatGPT, DALL-E, and GPT-4," offered by Scrimba, experienced a significant surge, with a threefold increase of 344% between the fourth quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. "Introduction to Large Language Models" by Google Cloud witnessed a 290% increase in enrolment between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024.
The report reveals an overall 14% increase in AI, ML course enrolments in India during 2023, while GenAI courses witnessed an overall enrolment of 44%. “ In 2023, someone in India enrolled in GenAI content every three minutes on Coursera,” the report reads.
To meet the growing demand for AI, ML and GenAI courses, Coursera has also launched over 75 new courses and projects in 2024.
