JEE Main 2026: IIT Delhi’s CSE, EE most opted; last 2 years' closing ranks for all categories

At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Computer Science (CSE) and Electrical Engineering (EE) have continued to be the most preferred choices among candidates, with 27,697 students opting for CSE and 23,503 choosing EE. The IIT Delhi’s BTech CSE closing rank fell by 10 points from 126 to 116 under the open gender neutral category, as compared to last year’s closing rank.

According to the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) Report 2025, the BTech Design programme was the least preferred, with only 3,173 students selecting it.

While at IIT Bombay, a total of 28,705 candidates chose the BTech CSE and 24,123 selected EE, and 21,412 opted for mechanical engineering, as per the IIT Kanpur’s JIC 2025 report.

Notably, IIT Delhi introduced the BTech Design programme with an intake capacity of 20 students, admitting candidates based on either the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) scores. The programme requires a total of 155 credits for completion.
