The previous years’ Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) data for the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) programme in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) shows a mixed trend in closing ranks, suggesting varied levels of demand across institutions.

The closing ranks for the Other State quota in 2025 ranged from 3,283 at NIT Tiruchirappalli to 44,871 at NIT Mizoram, reflecting differences in student preferences, regional factors, and institutional reputation.

Among the more competitive NITs , NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Warangal, NIT Karnataka (Surathkal), and NIT Rourkela recorded the lowest closing ranks, remaining under 6,000 for the open category.

NIT Tiruchirappalli maintained its position as one of the top choices, closing at 3,283 in 2025 compared to 15,587 in 2024 and 7,153 in 2023. NIT Warangal followed closely with a closing rank of 5,057, while NIT Surathkal stood at 4,347. These institutes have shown steady demand across three years, with minor rank shifts indicating consistent applicant interest.

Wider rank range at newer and remote NITs

The data further highlights a gradual widening of ranks at newer or geographically distant NITs. NIT Arunachal Pradesh (41,523), NIT Nagaland (44,158), and NIT Mizoram (44,871) recorded the highest closing ranks for 2025, indicating lower demand relative to older NITs.

Certain NITs exhibited notable volatility in closing ranks between 2024 and 2025. For instance, NIT Rourkela improved its closing rank from 19,473 in 2024 to 5,785 in 2025, while NIT Silchar’s rank narrowed from 57,804 to 18,068 in the same period. In contrast, institutes such as NIT Goa and NIT Hamirpur showed only minor variations, indicating relative stability in their closing positions.
