JEE Main Most Scoring Concept: January 2025 Session | April 2025 Session
The JEE Main 2026 session 1 will be conducted from January 21 to 30, while session 2 will be held from April 2 to 9.
The testing agency has also clarified that the use of a “virtual calculator” will not be allowed during the JEE Main 2026 . NTA cited a “typographical error” in the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin regarding the use of virtual calculators in the exam.
Candidates can apply for the JEE Main 2026 session 1 till November 27, and the fee payment can be done till 11:50 pm. The JEE Main 2026 results will be declared by February 12.
According to the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria, candidates who have qualified in Class 12 or an equivalent exam within the last three years are eligible to apply. There’s no age limit to apply for the entrance exam.

Also, this year, NTA has increased the number of JEE exam cities to 323 from 284. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to share the Class 11 registration details with the NTA to help prevent any scheduling conflicts between the JEE Main exams and the CBSE board Class 12 exams 2026.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main 2026 in two sessions — Session 1 from January 21 to 30, and Session 2 from April 2 to 9. Registration for Session 1 began on October 31, and the last date to submit applications is November 27.

JEE Main 2026 Registration: NIT ECE closing ranks
Analysis of previous years’ JoSAA data shows varied demand for the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) branch across NITs. Top institutes like NIT Tiruchirappalli, Warangal, Surathkal, and Rourkela recorded closing ranks below 6,000, while newer or remote NITs such as Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh had ranks above 40,000. JEE Main 2026: Is calculator prohibited?
As per the NTA’s latest update, the use of calculators is strictly not allowed in JEE Main 2026. The testing agency cited a "typographical error" in the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin regarding the use of a calculator.
Candidates are prohibited from carrying items such as instruments, geometry or pencil boxes, handbags, purses, any type of paper, stationery, or written material, food or water (loose or packed), mobile phones, earphones, microphones, pagers, DocuPens, slide rules, log tables, cameras, tape recorders, electronic watches with calculator functions, metallic items, or any electronic devices inside the examination hall.

Why JEE Mains (2026) is conducted?
The Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) comprises of two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and institutions, universities funded, recognized by participating state governments.
JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. JEE (Main) Paper 2 is conducted for admission to BArch and BPlanning courses in the country.

JEE Mains 2026: Registration fee medium
Candidates can pay the JEE Mains 2026 registration fee online through net banking, credit card, debit card, and UPI.
"After successful payment, candidate will be able to print the confirmation page. In case the confirmation page is not generated after payment of fee then the transaction is cancelled and the candidates have to approach the concerned bank for refund of amount. However, the candidate has to make another payment/transaction, in case the confirmation page is not generated," according to the official website.
Any such cases of multiple payments (if any), will be reconciled by the NTA after the declaration of final result and will be refunded to the concerned candidates.

JEE Mains 2026: Dimensions for uploading photographs
To complete the JEE Main 2026 application form, candidates are required to upload scanned images or photograph, signature, Class X or equivalent certificate/marks-sheet and PwD/PwBD certificate (wherever applicable).
The recent passport size photograph should be in colour with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against white background. Photograph should be named as 'Photograph' and in JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 300 kb.
Signature file should be named as 'Signature' and in JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 50 kb. Scanned copy of Class X or Equivalent Certificate/Marks-sheet should be named as ‘Class-X Certificate’ and should be a pdf between 10 kb to 300 kb (clearly legible).
Scanned copy of PwD/PwBD certificate should be named as 'Disability Certificate' and should be a pdf between 10 kb to 300 kb (clearly legible).

JEE Mains Registration 2026: State code of eligibility
If a candidate has passed the Class 12 exam from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, the state code of eligibility will be from where the candidate first passed the qualifying exam and not from where they appeared for improvement.
Those who have passed Class 12 or appearing for the exam from NIOS should select the state of eligibility according to the state in which the study centre is located.
For Indian nationals passing the Class 12 exam from Nepal or Bhutan, the eligibility will be determined based on a permanent address in India as given in the passport of the candidate.
Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) passing the Class 12 from an institution abroad are eligible for other state quota seats or All India quota seats, but not for Home State quota seats in all NITs, IIITs and Other-CFTIs.

NTA JEE Mains Registration 2026: List of qualifying exams
Candidates who have qualified the following exams are eligible to apply for JEE Mains 2026:
- Class 12 board exam conducted by any recognized central or state educational board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) etc.
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University exam (PUC) conducted by a recognized board or university.
- Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with a minimum of five subjects.
- Any public school, board, or university exam in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the Class 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
- A diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 years duration.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
- Candidates who have completed the Class 12 or equivalent exam outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.
- Candidates should have passed at one public exam either Class 12 board exam or pre-university exam.

The NTA in 2024 revised the tie-breaking process for Paper 1 to determine ranks of candidates with identical total NTA scores. The criteria used were applied in the following order:
- Higher NTA score in Mathematics
- Higher NTA score in Physics
- Higher NTA score in Chemistry
- Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects
- Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Mathematics
- Candidate with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Physics

During the 2025 placement season, students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela received 1,274 job offers, with the highest package reaching Rs 62.44 lakh per annum. The average BTech salary stood at ₹14.10 lakh.
A total of 373 recruiters participated in the drive, representing sectors such as software and IT services, manufacturing, BFSI, electronics, and education. Admissions for the 2026–27 academic session will be conducted through JEE Main 2026.

JEE Mains 2026 Registration: Aadhaar update issues during application; students complain
Recently, students registering for JEE Main 2026 reported technical difficulties while updating their Aadhaar details on the NTA’s official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Many said the site does not respond after clicking the submit button, redirecting them to the same page despite repeated attempts. Some aspirants noted that waiting for two hours or retrying intermittently helped, but the issue continues for several candidates.
NTA began registrations on October 31, which will close on November 27, with session 1 scheduled from January 21 to 30 and results expected on February 12.

NTA JEE Main 2026: Use of calculator strictly prohibited
As per the NTA’s latest update, the use of calculators is strictly not allowed in JEE Main 2026. The testing agency cited a "typographical error" in the JEE Main 2026 information bulletin regarding the use of a calculator.
Candidates are prohibited from carrying items such as instruments, geometry or pencil boxes, handbags, purses, any type of paper, stationery, or written material, food or water (loose or packed), mobile phones, earphones, microphones, pagers, DocuPens, slide rules, log tables, cameras, tape recorders, electronic watches with calculator functions, metallic items, or any electronic devices inside the examination hall.
