Download EBookThe Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) has announced the provisional selection list after conducting physical counselling for 50 MBBS supernumerary seats to accommodate students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) Katra in government medical colleges.
Vaishno Devi medical college had filled 50 MBBS seats based on NEET merit list . However, 42 seats out of the total were offered to Muslim candidates, which drew sharp criticism from right-wing organisations, including BJP-led Snagharsh Samiti. Following the protests, the National Medical Commission ( NMC) revoked the approval for MBBS admission at the Vaishno Devi medical college.
The opposition sought a fair and transparent assessment and submitted a resolution in the J-K assembly to reconsider the withdrawal of Letter of Permission (LoP) by the NMC. They also pointed out how the 50 MBBS students, despite getting admission, were left in limbo.
50 SMVD MBBS students reallocated seats
Weeks later, as per the directions of the health and medical education department, the JKBOPEE conducted physical NEET UG counselling 2025 for the 50 MBBS students to reallocate their seats against 50 supernumerary seats in seven government medical colleges . Notably, SMVD is a private medical college located in Katra.
As per the JK allotment list, the NEET UG cut-off rank of these students ranges from 46995 to 69800. The marks obtained by these candidates in NEET UG exam range between 505 and 486 out of a total 720 marks.
Selected candidates are required to report to government medical colleges to complete the admission procedures by January 29 up to 4 pm. These 50 students will be accommodated against eight supernumerary seats in GMC Anantnag, and seven seats each in GMC Baramulla, Doda, Handwara, Kathua, Rajouri, and Udampur.
They will have to submit a date of birth certificate or Class 10 marksheet, Class 12 marksheet, domicile certificate, NEET UG score card, and any other document.
“The Head of the concerned Colleges/Institutions are advised to furnish the shortfall, if any, to the Board through email at coejakbopee@gmail.com/helpdeskjakbopee@gmail.com on 29-01-2026, up to 05:00 P.M., along with a hard copy duly signed by the head of the institution,” the board said.
