AI for All: MoE's Swayam Plus launches free ‘AI for Educators’ course with IIT Madras experts

The ministry of education’s (MoE) Swayam Plus platform has expanded its AI for All initiative by introducing a new course titled “Al for Educators”. The course has been developed in collaboration with IIT Madras and IIT-M Pravartak to help teachers gain an understanding of concepts, applications, and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in their classrooms.

The pilot batch of the initiative, which started in July, has already attracted over 42,000 registrations, highlighting the growing demand for AI literacy among students and working professionals.

“From no-code to low-code to full coding, Swayam Plus is making AI education accessible to everyone, regardless of technical background,” the ministry said, adding that the last date to register for the free AI courses is October 10.

Undergraduate students from studying first-year onwards are eligible to apply for the free AI courses.

The five AI courses aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) introduced earlier are — AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, AI in Accounting, AI and ML with Python, and Cricket Analytics with AI.

All the free courses are taught by experts from IIT Madras and IIT-M Pravartak to build various skills such as data analysis, technology integration, simulation understanding, computational thinking, problem solving, analytical reasoning, and experimental design.

Learning outcomes, AI jobs

The ministry said learners who complete the course will qualify jobs such as AI research assistant, AI coach, and AI mentor for teachers.

Through this program, teachers will gain a comprehensive understanding of AI concepts, explore contemporary pedagogical strategies enhanced by AI, and practice hands-on applications for productivity, assessment, and student-centered learning, it said.

Explaining the role of AI in modern education, the ministry said that the course will enable teachers to apply AI tools to enhance pedagogy and productivity, use AI for interactive student engagement and visualisation, and enable AI-enabled assessment, and blended learning.

The modules cover generative AI and prompt engineering, along with technologies like AR, VR and animation to promote interactive learning.
