IIT Madras expands free online AI courses to school teachers of all classes

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is expanding the free AI courses to school teachers of all classes across India. The “AI for all” courses are being offered online through SWAYAM Plus in partnership with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

IITM has launched a new course on AI for educators, that is being introduced with a special focus on K12, in addition to the previously offered five courses including AI in physics, AI in chemistry, AI in accounting, cricket analytics with AI, and AI or ML using python.

The duration of each course ranges between 25 and 45 hours and they are provided free of cost. The last date to register for the six courses is October 10.

Teachers and aspiring teachers can apply for this course to gain essential knowledge on artificial intelligence and practical tools to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement.

AI education

“These courses aim to make AI education inclusive and accessible across disciplines. They are designed not only for engineering students but also for learners from arts, science, commerce, and other fields,” the institute said.

IIT Madras director V Kamakoti said, “Artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of learning, and K-12 teachers play a vital role in bringing this change into classrooms. By equipping them with AI skills, we are not only strengthening education but also contributing to nation-building.”
