NIOS, Sports Skill Council team up to offer vocational yoga courses; open to foreign nationals

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the Sports Skills Council (Council for Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Leisure Skills) have signed an agreement to conduct vocational courses in yoga (sports) across India. The objective of the agreement is to conduct vocational courses related to yoga (sports) and provide better skills, training and employment opportunities. The agreement will also allow foreign nationals to enrol in these courses.
Sports Skill Council CEO Janab Tahsin Zahid and NIOS Secretary Colonel Shakeel Ahmed signed the agreement and said that NIOS and Sports Skill Council will now jointly conduct professional courses related to Yoga (Sports) and provide better skills and training.
NIOS Chairman Pankaj Arora stated the agreement aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which emphasises vocational education and skill development. “NIOS and Sports Skill Council will jointly conduct vocational courses related to yoga (sports) and provide better-skilled training so that these learners will get employment opportunities. He hoped that this partnership would prove to be beneficial for NIOS, Sports Skill Council and the society,” he said.
42 Yoga trainers in Maharashtra
NIOS offers a variety of yoga courses as part of its vocational programmes. According to the official press release, 42 NIOS yoga trainers are employed as teachers in Maharashtra, and 20 are employed in Haryana. Other learners have found employment in private yoga and health institutes, hospitals, and the corporate sector.
Yoga games training
The agreement will also prepare learners for yoga games. It will benefit individuals interested in or involved in yoga without certification or diplomas, providing skilled training through yoga sports courses and creating employment platforms. “The main objective of this MoU is to connect the general public with Yoga (Sports) courses, provide skilled training to the learners and provide a platform for employment,” the official press release said.
