More than 92,000 candidates appeared for the CLAT 2026 college entrance exams, held on December 7 in a single shift from 2 pm to 4 pm. Those who have qualified the pen and paper-based test will be able to register for the CLAT 2026 counselling through the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in.
The CLAT 2026 counselling registration window will be closed at 10 pm on December 27, 2025 for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes at NLUs participating in the counselling process.

CLAT 2026 Counselling: Registration fee, other details
“Candidates will be invited to participate in the Admissions Counselling Process in accordance with the rank list and the admissions matrix provided by each NLU. Eligible candidates will receive an email invitation to participate in the admissions counselling process at their registered email address, along with an SMS at their registered mobile number and an invitation on their CLAT 2026 portal,” the official notice reads.
Notably, the CLAT 2026 counselling registrations will be termed completed only after paying the registration fee before the deadline.
The CLAT 2026 counselling registration fee for the general category candidates is Rs 30,000, while for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Backward Classes (BC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Disability (PwD) category candidates, the registration charges are Rs 20,000.
The law counselling registration will ask for candidates preferences. They can select a minimum of 15 choices for UG, and 5 for PG programmes. The process will have five rounds of counselling, and candidates can exercise ‘freeze, float, or exit’ options on the basis of the seat allotment.
“The Freeze option confirms the seat and requires payment of a non-refundable confirmation fee. The Float option allows candidates to retain the allocated seat while remaining eligible for a higher preference in subsequent rounds. The Exit option allows candidates to leave the counselling process, with forfeiture of the confirmation fee if applicable,” the notification reads.
