The government will award Rs 1 lakh scholarships under the NMMS scheme to students of government, aided and local body schools.
NEW DELHI: The application window (fresh and renewal) for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) 2023-24 will close on December 31, 2023. Eligible students can apply for the NMMS 2023-24 on the National Scholarship Portal, scholarships.gov.in.

The union government awards the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at Class 8. The government awards 1 lakh fresh scholarships annually to selected students from Class 9. The scholarships are continued in Classes 10 to 12 if students meet the criteria Selected students, who are studying in state government, government-aided and local body schools, are given a scholarship of Rs 12,000 per annum.
NMMSS scholarships are disbursed directly into the bank accounts of selected students by electronic transfer through public financial management system (PFMS) following the direct benefit transfer mode. NMMS is a central sector Scheme.
Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs 3,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail the scholarships. The students must have minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).

There are two levels of verification, L1 is institute nodal officer (INO) level and L2 is district nodal officer (DNO) level. The last date of INO level (L1) verification is January 15, 2024 and of DNO level (L2) verification is January 30, 2024.
