Tamil Nadu expands Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to 2,430 schools; to benefit 3.5 lakh more students

Tamil Nadu will expand the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to 2,430 government schools for students from class 1 to 5 on August 26. Around 3.5 lakh students will benefit daily from the scheme, the CMO said in an official statement.

Chief minister MK Stalin will launch the expansion of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme at St. Susaiyappar Primary School, Mylapore, Chennai.

The objective of the scheme, flagged off in 2022, was to serve breakfast to students of Adhimoolam Corporation Primary School , Madurai. Later, it was expanded in 2023 at the Government Primary School in Thirukuvalai.

“Through the scheme, 18 lakh 50 thousand students studying in 30 thousand 992 schools are eating hot and tasty breakfast and are happily studying in school subjects,” the official statement reads.

Telangana, Canada follow similar snack scheme

Moreover in 2024, the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme was again expanded at St. Anna Government Aided Primary School in Keezhacheri village where around 3,995 students were given the morning meal.

As per the data released by the CMO, the scheme has received widespread praise from parents and students, resulting in an increase in the number of students attending school.

“The study report has found that the learning ability of children has improved and the recall of previous subjects has increased by more than 90%,” the TN government said.

Similarly, the Telangana government also started a morning snack programme in their schools. Notably, the Government of Canada also implemented the morning snack program in their country.
