WBBSE sets 15-year age limit for Madhyamik 2027; schools can choose first language based on student choice

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced the minimum age to appear in the WB Madhyamik Pariksha for the academic year 2027. As per the West Bengal Class 10 age limit, students should be 15 years old to be eligible for the Madhyamik exam.

“Candidates whose date of birth is within 31st October, 2012 are to be considered eligible to appear at the Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Examination), 2027. The School authorities are requested not to send names of students whose date of birth is beyond 31st October 2012,” the West Bengal Board stated.

The state government order dated July 31, 1991 and October 28, 2005 introduced age guidelines and minimum age requirements for Class 9 and lower classes.

The state board had earlier announced that the WB Madhyamik public exam 2026 will be conducted in February 2026. As per the West Bengal Madhyamik Routine 2026 , the board exams for Class 10 students will be conducted from February 2 to 12.

The board has been making a series of changes in the curriculum for secondary and higher secondary classes. It has also rolled out a semester system for Classes 11 and 12. The first-ever semester exam for Class 12 will be conducted from September 8 to 22.

In other latest news, the WBBSE has asked all school principals to share student-wise medium of instruction and first language details. “Schools having both Bengali and English as medium of instruction can henceforth offer either Bengali or English as First Language, as per available facility and keeping in view the choice of the students,” it said.
