The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the CBSE Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026 exam on February 7 and 8. Due to an increase in the number of CBSE CTET 2026 applications, the board has decided to hold the February 2026 session exam on 2 days.

Earlier, the CTET exam 2026 was scheduled to be held on February 8.

The CBSE CTET 2026 exam will be held at 140 cities across the country. Candidates are advised to reach the CTET exam centre atleast one hour before the exam begins and carry their admit card and original ID for verification purposes.

CBSE has advised candidates to carefully check the CTET exam date 2026 mentioned on their admit card before appearing for the exam. No request for change of exam city, centre, or date will be entertained under any circumstances.

As per reports, CBSE CTET may soon include the Maithili language as an option in the paper. The development came after a proposal related to Maithili was cleared during a National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) meeting.

Currently, CTET is held in 20 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, Manipuri, Marathi, Bangla, Garo, Khasi, Malayalam, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Urdu.

CTET is conducted for candidates aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 8 in central government schools and other institutions that accept CTET scores. The exam comprises two papers: Paper I for primary Classes 1 to 5, and paper 2 for upper primary Classes 6 to 8.
