65 proposals for off-campus centres in 3 years; 43 set up: Education ministry

University Grants Commission: The decision for a total of 45 proposals was made, according to the data shared by the ministry of education in the Lok Sabha.
University Grants Commission received 65 proposals from universities and institutions for the establishment of their off-campus centres, of which decisions for 45 have been made, according to the data shared by the ministry of education in the Lok Sabha.
A total of 43 off-campus centres have been established across various states. One each off-centre campus has been approved in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan and Telangana.
In the last 3 years, other off-campus centres have been established across the states listed below.

Recently, UGC urged all the higher educational institutions (HEIs) to participate in a survey on students' mental health and well-being through the National Task Force portal without any delay. The Supreme Court observed that several institutions have not yet responded to the NTF survey, failing to which, an action will be taken.
Earlier in October 2025, UGC published the list of 22 fake universities , which were functioning without any proper recognition. According to UGC, these institutions were not authorised to confer degrees or any qualifications. UGC also warned about a fake university running in Delhi , the Institute of Management and Training, and another university in Kerala, known as the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine.
