The Pharmacy Council of India has granted permission to 42 out of the 89 institutes that were banned from admissions, after they complied with the PCI norms.
Barely two weeks after the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) barred admissions at 89 pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra, it has reversed its decision for 42 institutions. These institutes will now be allowed to admit students for its BPharm and DPharm courses.
The regulatory body has earlier cancelled the permission of 89 pharmacy institutes , including 18 BPharm and 71 diploma (DPharm) colleges. However, eight BPharm and 34 DPharm institutes have now been allowed to admit students for the academic year 2025-26.
The council restored admission approval after compliance with the PCI’s infrastructure and staff-related requirements . Some of the colleges were granted permission after court directions in several petitions filed by the administrations.
During the 434th meeting, the PCI reviewed the Maharashtra government’s letter and court orders dated September 24 and 26, issued by the Bombay High Court, Aurangabad Bench, along with similar petitions.
“In view of the latest information on record, including the Government of Maharashtra’s letter dated September 29, 2025, the Council decided to restore the admission status of 42 colleges for the 2025–26 academic year,” the PCI stated.
